Growing up in Michigan exposed me to the importance of and pride taken in buy-local movements. There was always locally grown produce available, but the same could not be said about materials. I wanted to make a lamp from local materials so I collected a decaying log from the woods outside my parents' home. I chiseled away the rotted material and was rewarded with beautiful spalting underneath.
